Answers

1a. What kind of items can you apply a paint job to? And what kind of custom paint schemes do you do?

We paint mostly on motorcycles: choppers, street bikes, baggers, and custom builds. Also, we paint cars, trucks, box trucks, boats, jet skis, helmets (all types), hotrods, and even airplanes! We don't do a lot of things like computers, RC models, and toilet seats, but hey, they are fun to work with too!

Our repertoire of custom paint schemes include: Portraits, murals, illustration work, logo reproduction, skulls, bio-mechanical schemes, gilding (gold leaf, silver leaf, and other metals), all styles of classic flames (there are several types, just let us know what you like), true flames and plasma flames (single color true flames), cartoon characters, true kandy jobs, flakes, pearls, marbleizers, chameleon colors, chrome paint, and much more!!

We also provide hand pulled pinstripe jobs.

We can do anything you can imagine, just try us!

1b. What kind of paints do you use? What kind of spray guns?

We prefer to use only House Of Kolor paints on our custom paint jobs. But for the fine detail illustration work we use the new Createx Auto-Air paints. For paint guns and airbrushes we use Iwata brand.

2. How long does it take to complete a paint job?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions, and it does not really have a definite answer... Most of the time it takes about 1-2 weeks for a color change on 3 pieces (tank and 2 fenders) depending on the color and finish desired. For a complete custom job with a frame, motor supports, side covers, fenders and tank, it can take up to 5 weeks. But that is a really super custom paint scheme. We try to give about a 3 week time frame if possible.

3. Do you do bodywork, and how much is it?

Yes, we have all of the tools for just about any kind of repairs that you will need! The small repairs that are required for most paint jobs are included in the price since the parts are stripped and reworked for the paint job. But if it has been damaged extensively or needs welding to repair metal work, we have a shop hourly rate of $45.00 per hour. We also provide plastic and fiberglass repair at the same rate.

4. Can you seal tanks?

Yes, we provide this service for $65-85 dollars, depending on the style and size of the tank.

5. How long before I can wax my newly painted parts?

Once you receive your parts, we recommend that you wait at least 4 weeks, preferably 6 weeks before you wax them. The parts are treated with a special new paint safe wax-sealer before you receive them which will last for about 6 weeks and provides some protection from dust and dirt until you are able to use a high grade carnauba wax to treat them yourself. It could possibly cause the parts to haze over if you wax before the recommended time, due to the fresh paint releasing gasses for quite some time.

6. Will your paint jobs bubble around the gas cap hole?

NO! Here at Rare Air Werx, we use a proprietary clear sealant around the fuel cap hole after the paint has cured. This will keep gas fumes and some spilled gas from creeping under the fresh paint. We have never had a job come back for this reason, and we would like to keep it that way! As always, it is recommended that you use a vented gas cap.

7. Can you paint fiberglass and plastic parts?

Yes we can, not much good being a custom painter if you cant paint and guarantee your work on many different surfaces. If it will sit still long enough, we can paint it! If you have some exotic materials, feel free to call and ask us about it.

8. What do you do about the areas under the fenders and places like that?

We use 3M undercoating for all of these applications. It is a flat black, rubberized material that will protect from scratches and chips which can lead to rusting and lifting problems. We can also use a tougher material, much like Rhino-Lining if it is requested for a nominal charge. This material is much thicker and more durable, so if you plan on really riding hard, this might be the way to go for you.

9.Can we ship to you, since we do not live close enough to visit?

Of course! Just contact us for our shipping address. We use UPS insured shipping to ship all of our parts to make sure your parts get back to you safely! We also use very sturdy boxes to ship small parts, like tanks and fenders, and large crates for larger parts like frames and car hoods. Always ask your local shipping company for tips on the best way to ship your parts here. Make sure you enclose a note with your name and phone number, along with your return address so we can get up with you when we receive them! Not much good sending them if we don't know who they are for, you know.

10. Do you require a deposit?

Yes. We require a 50% deposit on the quoted price before we start on the job. This covers your special supplies and other required items for your job. It also holds your time allotted for the job. Your time is for your project only, we do not work on several jobs at a time so that we can make sure you get the best quality possible. The balance of the price will be due upon completion of job.

11. Do you take checks? Credit cards? Money orders?

Yes, but we do require a 10 business day holding period to make sure it goes through. Yes, we accept credit cards through paypal. Money orders are ok too. There is a $25.00 charge for returned checks.

12. Do you give a guarantee on you work?

Yes we do. ALL work done by us has: 1 year warrantee limited to defects in craftsmanship, and materials defects. (this includes lifting, separation, bubbling, peeling and other defects) It does not include damage incurred by the person or company rebuilding the bike or vehicle, or damage by shippers, that is why we insure the parts when we ship them. We also guarantee that the work will be done to your satisfaction and our standards.
